These Gouramies display a delicate patterning of whitish, Pearl - Like spots. Males are easily recognisable from the age of about 7 months by the reddish colouration of their underparts. They can be kept in community aquariums, but as with all Gouromies and some other anabentoids, avoid mixing them with fin-nipping fish such as Barbs.
A Breeding tank for a pair of Pearl Gouramies should have a relatively low water level of about 4" (10 cm) deep and must be spacious. The male builds a large bubble nest among plants, with the female laying up to 1,000 eggs. The fry will hatch with in a day or so, and be free swimming within further 3 days. They should be given infusoria or a commercial substitute as their first food.
