The Oscar's dull, greenish - brown background if offset with lighter, reddish - orange markings arranged in irregular patterns. There can be considerable variations between individuals. Soon becoming tamed enough to be fed by hand, Oscars need an efficient filtration system to prevent any deterioration in water quality. Females develop genital papilla prior to spawning, with pairs forming a strong pair bond.
